Sochi wrap-up

DANNY DAVIS, SNOWBOARD HALFPIPE, UNITED STATES: “My journey here was…was a lot of snowboarding and once I got here – you know, you heard a lot of stuff, you know, “be careful, don’t wear…don’t wear your country colors outside of the village…don’t…” you know this and that and, like, I was pissed cause I didn’t bring enough America-wear and it’s been so mellow. I didn’t bring any of my…I didn’t bring any of my 4th of July gear because I thought I wasn’t supposed to and it’s been…it’s been so mellow.”
KAITLYN FARRINGTON, SNOWBOARD HALF PIPE, UNITED STATES: “It’s been an amazing experience. It’s my first Olympics and I’ve just been enjoying it as much as I can and my best moment was winning the gold in the Half-Pipe, I think, and just being able to be up here and call myself an Olympian because I literally found out three weeks ago that I was going to be an Olympian. And, so, just to walk out of Sochi with a Gold Medal was amazing.”
MAXIME DUFOUR-LAPOINTE, FREESTYLE MOGULS, CANADA: “Worst memories? I don’t really have any. Maybe except I might have lose some socks in the drying machine – haha – or clothes, but that really pretty much it.”
DANNY DAVIS, SNOWBOARD HALFPIPE, UNITED STATES: “The ongoing joke of what’s been a surprise has been, like, it’s kind of like a Hollywood set here. You know? Like, it’s almost like things are like almost fake or, like, just tacked on or taped on. I mean my girlfriend was in the elevator the other day and she, like, leaned on the thing in the Mariott and it just krshh broke right off and… you know, our hotel, all the tape from painting was still on all the fixtures and stuff. It was just like…it was kind of funny.”
PHILIPPE MARQUIS, FREESTYLE MOGULS, CANADA: “… but the way I skied and the way I put my heart in that run and one of the fastest run I’ve ever done and one of the fastest run of the competition. So, you know, I finished 9 but, uh, that was the day where I lived up to my expectation and I think I show everyone else that I deserve to be here and I could be one of the best skiers, the most exciting to watch so you know at the end of the day it’s no-regrets-day and it’s an experience I’m going to carry and bring home.”
KELLY CLARK, SNOWBOARD HALFPIPE, UNITED STATES: “To be on the Olympic podium 12 years after the first time I stood up there is a dream come true. Who gets to do what they love for a living? Who gets to chase down their dreams? Who gets to have the opportunity to…to represent their country; to represent their sport once, let alone twice…three…four times? And it’s one of the greatest achievements in my life to stand on top of the podium again with my friends 12 years after the first time I did it.”
KAITLYN FARRINGTON, SNOWBOARD HALF PIPE, UNITED STATES: “I have so many things to be proud of. Of how I’ve grown in the last few months and my way here and how I’ve trained. There’s no details I’ve left. There’s no stone unturned and it came all down to that one little mistake, which was technical but I’ve put it down. And I gave it everything so in the end I’m like ‘Okay, I’m going to learn from this…’ you know how in Vancouver I … I told myself, ‘Well next time I’m going to be there as an Olympian…’ well on the 8th of February I was thinking ‘Well, next time I’m going to be on that podium and I’ll build out on that for the next few years.”
DANNY DAVIS, SNOWBOARD HALFPIPE, UNITED STATES: “I’ve been bummed that I didn’t land two runs. But in all reality, I mean Olympics doesn’t define me as a snowboarder, doesn’t define me as a person. Was it a great experience? Yeah. Like, am I glad I got to experience it? Yeah. So from here it’s like go home, hang with my dogs and do some snowboarding at home and then it’s time for the US Open.”
KELLY CLARK, SNOWBOARD HALFPIPE, UNITED STATES: “I listened to a band called Hillsong that night and I listened to a song called ‘The Stand’. There’s some lyrics in it that, um, kind of summed up my approach and kind of summed up my night and kind of summed up my heart, really. There’s a line in that song that says ‘I stand with my arms out and heart abandoned.’ And now was it, for me.
