It is believed that in the companies promotion to higher positions should be given to the long- service employees. While I accept that length of service is undoubtedly an important factor, I would argue that there are several other considerations to make a decision on who should be promoted.

On the one hand, the length of service is instrumental in choosing candidates for promoting to higher positions in the corporations. In reality, employees who have been working for a long time for a company may gain a wealth of experience in their job. They may understand and solve any issue related to the scope of their work in next to no time and can propose good solutions to such problems. Moreover, this promotion may be not only an employee's reward for good performance but also encourage staffs to be much loyal toward companies.

On the other hand, I believe that there are many other factors which should be take into account when promoting a staff to a higher rank. The first element is technical requirements which refer to specific skills, expertise or experience that position demands. This factor ensures for successfully performing the job. Another element is behavioral requirements which refer to how a person needs to act. For example, good communication skills are a prerequisite for a position of sale manager requiring interaction with customers. As a result, any employee acquiring these requirements may be considered to be promoted without depending on how long they serve for company.

In conclusion, the long-service employee may be suitable to be given a higher position in companies; however, other staffs with qualified and communication skills may be considered to be promoted.
