Whether or not the developed countries still need further economic development to improve their citizens' happiness has been a hotly debated topic in recent years. Although some may say that too much money cannot bring more joy, originating their full life, I firmly believe that rich nations even need more economic development to make their citizens happier, deriving from people's infinite greed and the pillar role of the economic growth.
First, it is argued that too much money cannot bring more joy, resulting to the haves – nations' unnecessity of further economic growth. However, only in underdeveloped countries where people's need is still low, does this statement come true. In these countries, having enough food and raiment is the most extraordinary thing, leading to no demand for more money. On the contrary, in prosperous nations where their citizens' need for life enjoyment is incredible high, it is highly likely that no matter how well the economy grows, they cannot meet their needs. Let's take Japan as a staking example. Although Japan is one of the world's significant economies, the Japanese are still enjoying true happiness and always want their nation's economy to develop more.
On top of that, another reason opposing further economic development to bring more happiness to the citizens is that money can not buy happiness. However, citizens' happiness consists of various factors such as education, medicine, entertainment,… the more these factors grow, and the happier the citizens can feel. With the economy further developing, the developed nations' government can pay to boost their citizens' happiness. Thus, only when the economy grows continuously can people feel happier.
To sum up, further economic development creates favorable conditions for citizens to feel happier, resulting from people's infinitive ambition and the background for growing the happiness related factors.
