In my opinion, companies that advertise themselves through sports sponsorship have both benefits and disadvantages.
As we know, sports attract a lot of audiences. A large number of sport fans is a source of potential customers for all brands. They can use the reputation of famous teams and athletes to promote the brand. Football is an example. Famous teams like Manchester United or Liverpool have millions fans over the world. Fashion brands like Nike or Addidas sponsor shirts for these teams, and they can earn money from selling sportwears. Moreover, there brands will be known over the world. Some companies even buy football teams and become the owners. Beside advertise themselves, they can earn money from activities of clubs. Some brands also use famous players to represent for them. In my opinion, sponsoring sports to advertise brands is one of the most efficient way. On the other side, sponsoring contracts will provide money and make sports develop more. I think advertising by sponsoring sports also has some disadvangtages. Some companies lost money because revenues from sports is lower than their investigation. And now, when football tournaments in England are stopped now because of Corona Virus, some small club in England bankrupt because they don't have money to continue. Another example is the contract between Chervolet and Manchester United Football Club. Because of bad achievement of this club, Chervolet doesn't have advantages like their expectation, they stop to sponsor.
In fact, all things have both positive and negative sides. But I think sponsoring sports as a way to advertise is a good choice for companies who want to find a way to advertise themselves. If they have a good contract, advantages will come to them.
