Zimbabwe officially injects its new currencies into circulation

On November 12, it was the Central Bank of Zimbabwe that officially put some Zimbabwe dollar notes and coins in circulation with the purpose of easing the shortage of cash, which was considered as one of the reasons slowing down the growth of this African country's economy which was in the middle of the economic crisis.

The new currencies will be used alongside the existing currencies with the expectation of making an increase in the money supply for the market. However, the Central Bank of Zimbabwe made a decision to maintain the maximum weekly withdrawal of 18 USD per customer a week.

In addition, Zimbabwe had experienced hyperinflation peaking at 500 billion percent in 2009 made ZWD essentially worthless and forced the government to abandon its own currency and have to rely on US dollars as well as the currencies of neighboring countries (South African Rand). Despite the fact that the new currencies have been officially brought into circulation, the shortage of cash still shows no signs of stopping in Zimbabwe. Moreover, people in Zimbabwe have to spend hours standing in line in order to withdraw money.
